BOARD ACTIONS

The Board of Directors held its October meeting on October 6, 2005, at the home of Past President Dick Stephens. Nine board members were present. The board approved a contribution of $1,000 to LCIF for Hurricane Katrina relief which will count toward a Melvin Jones Fellowship for a Lion to be named at a later date. Lion Bob Moore will try to get the Country Club on March 10 for the reverse raffle. The Board also discussed the possibility of having a Christmas cocktail party in lieu of a regular dinner meeting if the party would not cost more than a regular meeting. There was a continuing discussion on the status of White House ornament sales.

The luncheon speaker will be International Director Sam Milliken from Pennsylvania. A general session will follow in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow Lions from throughout the District.

WHITE HOUSE ORNAMENTS

The White House Christmas ornament sales are underway and two members have accounted for sales of about one third of our order. See King Lion Jack Rowley if you have not received any ornaments. Please try to sell to your friends and neighbors. These make very nice Christmas presents.

DIRECTORY UPDATES

Please remember to let the Club secretary know if you have any changes in the information printed in the handbook, such as address, phone number, or email address.

LEADER DOG SCHOOL VISIT

LION BOB CADOW

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Lion Bob Cadow on Monday, October 10. Bob had been a member of the club since October 1963. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and served the club as Secretary from 1979-1989 and as Treasurer from 1989-1999. His funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 14 at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg.

October has not been a good month for our Lions family. In addition to the death of Lion Cadow, Lion Ken Lapin’s mother passed away on October 3 in North Carolina. Also, Lion Bob Sexton’s brother passed away on October 5 in Warren, Ohio.

Our sympathies go out to all of the families impacted by these deaths.
